 Race
Entry
The 2008 Kincaid Hammerman
takes place on July 19 at 10:00 a.m. and is capped at 125 individual athletes
and 15 teams.
Online entry is now open.
This event is sponsored
by USA Triathlon, and participants must either be a member of USAT or
purchase a one-day race license.
In order to obtain
event insurance and official USAT sanctioning, the following policies
must be posted:
- To maintain the
integrity of the event timing, the combining of any leg from a solo
participant with that of any team is not allowed.
- Official race bib
transfer policy: Due to increased litigation and higher insurance costs,
no participant may transfer his/her entry slot/bib number to another
individual. Sorry, but this one is a biggie. If an individual is found
to have raced under someone else's name or bib number, that person will
be disqualified.
- Refund Policy:
Planning and developing an athletic event that ensures adequate support
and supplies for participants is difficult. We rely on the registration
information to provide us with an accurate participant count. Because
this is vital to the success of our events, there will be no refunds
once a registration has been processed.
2008 Hammerman Triathlon and Moose Nugget Duathlon
Race Instructions and Tips
General
- The Hammerman and Moose Nugget events are meant to be fun and challenging multisport events for all participants. Poor sportsmanship is poor form and will likely result in disqualification and heckling from the race directors.
- Parking will be tight - park only on the right side of the road when driving to the start of the race.
- All triathletes must check in at the Body Marking table prior to the race. Proper body marking is essential to a properly timed event. The Body Marking table will be open from 8:00 am to 9:45 am.
- You must get body marked before you enter the water. Markers don’t work on wet skin
- Bike stands are provided.
- The Hammerman and Moose Nugget happen concurrently. Who will when overall? A Triathlete? A Duathlete?
- Spectators and family members should not bring dogs to the race. Please keep small children safe and out of the way of racers. This is a spectator-friendly event, and they will be close to the participants.
The Hammerman Swim
- The course consists of a 0.5-mile down-and-back swim in Little Campbell Lake. Buoys will define the course. Swimmers will keep buoys on their left for the entire swim.
- No fins, snorkels, or flotation devices will be allowed. Wetsuits are allowed and recommended, though not required.
- Anticipated water temperature will be in the mid 60s.
- There will be canoes and kayaks accompanying swimmers. Swimmers MAY hold on to boats to rest but may not make forward progress.
- It is recommended that swimmers self seed with faster swimmers lining up in the front.
- Important: Call out your race # as exiting the water. This will help to ensure accurate race results.
- You must wear the official Hammerman swim cap included in your race packet. It has your race number on it and helps insure a properly timed event.
The Moose Nugget Run #1
- There are no aid stations on the first Moose Nugget run leg.
- The first Moose Nugget Run leg consists of an approximately 2.2-K run around Little Campbell Lake. The course is hilly but not technically difficult.
- Be sure to have your race bib in the front during this first run leg. This allows the timers to see your number as you enter the transition area.
Transition Area
- Only race participants are allowed in the staging area. Outside assistance is not allowed.
- There will be water and Gatorade available in the transition area.
The Bike
- The course is approximately 10.9-miles long, and consists of lots of hills on the ski trails of Kincaid Park. Though not technical, there are many fast descents and hard ascents.
- Helmets must be attached before mounting the bike, worn at all times on the course, and must not be removed or unbuckled until you are off the bike.
- Race # should be worn on the back for the bike leg, unless you do not have a race belt. If you are pinning your # then attach to your front. Numbers MUST be attached before exiting the transition.
- Do not drop trash or equipment on the bike course.
- There is one aid station at World Cup on the bike leg. Water will be provided.
- Dismount bike at transition and place bike on the racks provided.
- Caution should be taken on the downhill sections; avoid reckless speeds, as you may encounter obstacles. These include downed trees, other racers, and wildlife. The biker is responsible for exercising control over their bicycle.
The Run
- The course is approximately 3.1 miles long. Like the mountain bike leg, the course is on ski trails and includes many hills. Save some strength for the run.
- Move race # to the front before exiting T2. Race number must be worn and visible.
- When possible, stay to the right when on the trails.
- Water will be available at the run turn around.
Awards/Ceremony
- The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 12:30 in the finish area. Pizza and snacks will be provided!
- Awards given to the top 5 overall for male/female, top 3 masters male/ female, and the top relay team in each division of the Hammerman Triathlon. Awards for the Moose Nugget Duathlon will depend on the number of participants
- Door prizes will also be given out, and you must be present to claim your loot.
- Results with splits will be posted on the website on Sunday. Every effort will be made to have results available after the race; however, timing a multisport event can be a tedious affair. Patience is appreciated
